Qatar’s LNG industry remains resilient despite COVID-19 and LNG continues to flow to all markets

Al Wasmi season to begin on Friday October 16th.

The Qatar Meteorology Department said yesterday that the Al Wasmi season will start in the country this coming Friday.

Al Wasmi season is the local term for rainy season, during which the country witnesses’ winds, storms and rainfall for 52 days.

The season is named because it coincides with rainfall that helps certain local plants grow, such as helianthemum and geranium.

The maximum temperature is expected to be below 35 degrees Celsius. And the minimum temperature should be around 20 degrees Celsius. With an overall mild temperature during the daytime and relatively cool temperatures at night.

And I can’t wait. This is my favourite time of year. Time to break out the BBQ.

Test to detect COVID-19 in 10 minutes available soon

The test is done by taking a swab from the nose to check antigens in the body, and then inserting them into a test card. The examination is usually done on people who have clear symptoms such as coughing and high temperature. The test can detect the virus during the first week of infection with an accuracy of 97% said Doctor Enas Al Kuwari.

Active cases of COVID-19 are now 2,795 which is up by 8 cases.

3.72% of those tested, tested positive.

And 29 cases were returning travelers, who are now in quarantine. That’s the highest number to date.

Qatar obtains Japanese drug proven effective against COVID-19

Brigadier General Doctor Asad Ahmed Khalil, The commander of the medical services at the Ministry of Defence said the drug was of Japanese make and has proven to be effective.

The drug was provided to 1,500 COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms, requiring treatment in intensive care. All of them have recovered. The drug along with plasma treatment has saved many lives that would otherwise have been lost, he added.

And students will appear in exams in person as per the schedules.

Man arrested for stealing items from cars

the accused would steal items from unlocked cars in the evening while roaming in residential areas. The investigation team confiscated the stolen items and he is being referred to the competent authorities for further legal action.

Qatar’s economy shows signs of recovery

Qatar’s economy appears to have recovered somewhat in the third quarter after a decline in the second quarter due to COVID-19 containment measures, low energy prices and plummeting visitor arrivals according to FocusEconomics.

In its October report FocusEconomics said Qatar’s government progressively lifted lockdown restrictions in four stages from mid-June and entered phase four on September 1st. As a result, the report said economic activity had largely resumed although capacity restrictions remain in place in stores and workplaces.

Expanded day care unit at NCCCR inaugurated

The minister of public health Doctor Hannan Mohammed Al Kawari has formally opened the expanded day care unit at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research.

Dr. Al Kawari said the day care unit has greatly expanded from 16 to 52 beds, which will positively impact the care provided to patients, most noticeably the chemotherapy services that have been enhanced.

Qatar making 1 million litres of hand sanitizers per month

Qatar in a short period of time has built sufficient capacity to produce hand sanitizers locally. The country is currently producing around 1 million litres of hand sanitizers per month.
