The first phase of lifting COVID curbs begins today

The first phase of the gradual lifting of the coronavirus related restrictions will commence from today. On Wednesday the cabinet approved the four phase plan to lift restrictions. The first phase begins today with the second scheduled to start on June the 18th, the third on July 9th and the 4th and final phase on July 30th. The duration of each phase will be at least three weeks with continuous assessment of national indicators to determine transition from one phase to another, so these dates may change.

Qatar Museums reopen from today, MIA to remain closed

Qatar Museums has announced the reopening of a number of its museums and restaurants from today. The reopening aligns with the Ministry of Public Health’s (MoPH) resumption of public activity in Qatar, based on milestones reached in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museums and galleries to reopen include the National Museum of Qatar or NMoQ; Mathaf which is the Arab Museum of Modern Art; and the Doha Fire Station gallery. Opening timings will be from Saturday to Thursday: 9am to 7pm while on Friday it will be from 1.30pm to 7pm. Qatar Museums’ playgrounds, libraries, and parks will also reopen. But the Museum of Islamic Art will remain closed for renovations.

Qatar’s weather Today

The Met Office have put out a warning that strong winds are expected in some places today. And you can expect some dust to go along with that. Doha will see temperatures between 32 and 43 degrees. Elsewhere in the country it will be between 25 and 44 degrees.

Now today’s COVID update.

In the last 24-hour period, there have been 286 new cases of COVID-19 and 152 recoveries. And I’m happy to say that there were no Covid related deaths. Which means for the 3rd day running there has been an increase in active cases, today rising by 134 giving us a new current total of 4,083 active cases.
