It’s Tuesday 25th August, this is the news in 60 seconds

In today’s newspapers.

Covid reinfection rate very low in Qatar

Only about four people in 10,000 in Qatar are likely to be reinfected with COVID-19 after recovering from the disease. According to a study conducted by Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar

So far only 54 people in the country have been reinfected, with varying degrees of severity. Explained doctor Laith Abu Raddad, professor of healthcare policy and research at WCM-Q.

Human Rights Watch doing more harm than good to workers says the Government Communications Office. Qatar has made significant progress in ensuring workers’ rights, and a report published by Human Rights Watch yesterday did not reflect the current situation in the country says the Government Communications Office (GCO).

New laws that are being implemented to secure workers welfare. Include doing away with the no objection certificates and the  introduction of a minimum wage. The first of its kind in the Middle East

in its report published on August 24th Human Rights Watch intentionally misled readers while performing a disservice to those they claim to be assisting, the GCO said in a statement. According to the GCO the current report contains repeated inaccuracies around policies and does not reflect the current situation in Qatar.

Doha Metro gears up to resume service

The Doha Metro is all geared up to resume service next month with COVID-19 precautionary measures in place. Doha Metro employees have been trained to apply precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Hand sanitizers have been installed across all stations and as many as 18,000 social distancing messages have been installed. Well that should do it then.

Since July 13th, the active cases of COVID-19 have been hovering at just above 3,000. Today we finally break the 3,000 barrier, with a drop in active cases to 2,973. Yeah!!! That’s what I’m talking about!

As a 7 day average, we are now down to just 5.08% of those being tested, testing positive.

That’s all for today, have a lovely Tuesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
