Shura council approves draught law on compulsory health insurance

According to the draught law, health insurance is mandatory to ensure the provision of basic healthcare services to expatriates and visitors to the country. Issuance and renewal of visas and residence permits for expatriates and visitors will be conditioned on submitting proof of holding health insurance for the duration of the stay. The draught law provides for medical treatment to beneficiaries in emergency situations without requiring them to pay anything until the danger is overcome, even if the service provider is not within the beneficiary’s network of service providers.

Says the Medical Director of the Communicable Disease Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation, doctor Muna Al Maslamani. She also says the Moderna and Pfizer Biontech vaccines, are both effective against the new strains from the UK and South Africa, according to these companies’ announcements.
