One in six adults given at least one dose of vaccine

In its weekly COVID-19 update the Ministry of Public Health say that one in six adults in the country have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.

134,498 doses were administered in the last seven days bringing the total number of doses administered to date to 594,613. Which means 18.2% of the population aged 16 years and above have received at least one dose.

The Qatar Rehabilitation Institute launches the first rehabilitation helpline

Qatar Rehabilitation Institute has launched the first rehabilitation helpline designed to make it easier for discharged patients to access follow up rehabilitation care and services. Covering paediatric, adult, and older adult rehabilitation services the helpline is designed to simplify the process for patients to continue with their required rehabilitation care to support their recovery after leaving hospital.

Qatar’s weather today

Doha will see temperatures between 20 and 33 degrees. Elsewhere in Qatar it will be between 16 and 33 degrees.

In the last 24-hour period, there have been 503 new cases of COVID-19 and 336 recoveries. Unfortunately, there was also 1 Covid related death. Which means there’s been an increase of 166 cases giving us a new current total of 12,985 active cases.

Doha Design District to be a game changer in the GCC

The newly launched Doha Design District will grant ‘Free Zone’ status to its occupants. Located in Msheireb Downtown Doha the Design District is set to be a gamechanger not only in Qatar but also in the GCC region.  And will become home for fashion, jewellery, medical and dental, aviation, military, oil and gas and many other businesses.

The cabinet affirms continuation of COVID-19 precautionary measures

Action taken against 447 for flouting COVID norms

406 for not wearing masks in public places where they are mandatory, 34 for exceeding the maximum of four people in a car, 3 for failing to comply with quarantine rules, and 4 for not installing the Ehteraz app on their mobile phones.  

47 companies face action for violating COVID-19 protocol

The companies did not comply with the rule requiring them to limit the number of workers transported on buses two half of their seating capacity. They also failed to ensure that workers maintain a safe distance from one another while getting in and out of buses, or indeed wearing masks properly.

Over 100,000 have received COVID-19 vaccine so far

Doctor Soha Al Bayat head of vaccination at the Ministry of Public Health says “in the coming days, we will see more and more people getting vaccinated. We have reached at least 50% of the target group”

Today’s Weather

The Met Office have put out a warning that there is expected to be strong winds with poor horizontal visibility today. Generally, the weather will be Misty too foggy in places at first, becoming moderate temperature later with some clouds and the chance of some rain. Due to the wind, you can also expect it to be quite dusty at some points throughout the day.

Doha will see temperatures between 19 and 30 degrees. Ohhh… it’s starting to warm up, this is the first time that I’ve seen 30 degrees for a while. Today’s lowest temperature will be in Abu Samra which will see temperatures as low as 12 degrees.

In the last 24-hour period, active cases of COVID-19 have increased by 325, to 9,569.

Qatar Airways set to begin trial of new IATA Travel Pass

In partnership with the International Air Transport Association or IATA from March 2021. Qatar Airways plans to become the first airline in the Middle East to begin trialling the innovative new IATA Travel Pass ‘Digital Passport’ mobile app.

The first phase of the trial of the Digital Passport will be rolled out on the airlines Doha to Istanbul route.

It will allow travellers to safely and securely share their verified ‘Okay to Travel’ status with the airline and other stakeholders even before they arrive at the airport.

All National Sports Day activities to be held outdoors

All sporting activities and events for the National Sports Day 2021 will be conducted entirely in an outdoor setting. Activities in indoor settings are entirely prohibited.

RT-PCR checks are a must for participants of sporting activities that require direct contact such as football, volleyball, basketball among others.

Food outlets and concessions at venues are restricted to readymade takeaway in disposable packaging items.

No buffet food is to be served at any venue.

And there’s to be no spitting, no cheering, no live choir and no live singing by spectators

And the Hilton Salawa Beach Resorts and Villas welcomes guests

The resort has opened its highly anticipated new hotel accommodation, which features spacious modern guest rooms, and joins the resorts wide range of offerings, including its 84 beach villas and Qatar’s largest theme park.

Qatar’s weather today will be misty to foggy in places at first becoming moderate temperature later with some clouds. It will be cold by tonight.

Doha will see temperatures between 17 and 26 degrees, today’s lowest temperature will be 10 degrees and that’s in Messaid.

In the last 24-hour period, active cases of COVID-19 have increased by 156, to 4,223.

10,143 COVID-19 tests were performed, and just 2.95% of those tested positive.

Of those testing positive 35 were travellers who are now in quarantine.

The Qatar USA year of culture aims to enhance cultural and artistic exchange between the two countries.

Hamad Medical Corporation resumes face to face outpatient appointments

Only patients with an appointment will be admitted to the Hamad Medical Corporation facilities. And attendees will need to show their Ehteraz status and have their body temperature taken prior to entry.

Hamad Medical Corporation will continue to offer virtual clinics for some follow up appointments or repeat prescriptions.

The Ministry of Public Health urges parents to ensure flu vaccine shots for their children

The ministry has reminded the public that this year it’s more important than ever to get the flu vaccination especially for children.

“Children are more susceptible to flu. protect your children from getting the virus and spreading it. Get them vaccinated” Said the National Head for Children and Adolescent Health Strategy.

Qatar’s weather in general today will be Misty to foggy in places at first becoming moderate temperature daytime with some clouds. And relatively cold by tonight.

Doha will see a high of 28 degrees and a low of 18. Abu Samra Continues to be the coldest with an expected low of 11 degrees.

And there’s a fog warning in place.

The country is expected to witness mist and fog in some places during the night and early morning until tomorrow the Qatar Metrological Department has warned.

In the last 24-hour period, active cases of COVID-19 have increased by 27, to 3,231.

10,132 COVID-19 tests were performed, and just 2.01% of those tested positive.

Of those testing positive 40 were travellers who are now in quarantine.

A Philippine Labour chief has applauded the abolition of the kafala system.

Philippine Labour Secretary, Silvester Bello the third, speaking at a virtual media forum in Manila yesterday said; “Qatar has already been a good destination for OFW’s even before the Kafala system was abolished, and this recent Labour reform by the state would further attract more OFW’s to work here”.

The Ministry of Administrative Development Labour and Social Affairs, plans to develop foreign workers recruitment mechanisms

The ministry projects aim to localise jobs in the private sector, describe and classify foreign workers according to their skill level, develop mechanisms for recruiting foreign workers, and implement minimum wage and strengthen wage protection schemes.

And yesterday there was only one arrested for violating home quarantine rules.

Active cases of COVID-19 are now 2,957. Slowly creeping back up to that 3,000 figure we seem to be having so much trouble getting away from.

Of those being tested, we’re down to 1 in 20 people testing positive.
