Qatar University plans to open branches abroad

Qatar University is planning to establish branches in a number of Asian and African countries. This was announced by Qatar University president Doctor Hassan Rashid al Derham yesterday.

Urgent consultation service a massive success

Hamad Medical Corporation’s urgent consultation service was very well received by the public as it received 197 thousand calls between its launch in March and December 31st last year. With a 95% response rate.

The telephone-based service allows patients to speak to healthcare professionals to obtain appropriate diagnosis for their condition so that necessary actions can be taken without the need to visit a hospital. The service can be accessed by calling the hotline number 16000.

90% of those surveyed recommended that the service remained in place in the future even after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Covid prompts smokers to quit in big numbers

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a 300% rise in the number of people who wish to quit smoking. Said doctor Jamal Bashi Smoking Cessation Specialist at Hamad Medical Corporations Tobacco Control Centre. “Many smokers started to realise that they are vulnerable as the COVID-19 infection showed more severe symptoms in smokers” he went on to say.

The state of Qatar has again retained its global distinction in safety, as Doha the capital of Qatar has been ranked the second safety city in the world.

Out of 431 cities covered in the report, Doha has been placed at #2 in terms of safety and low crime rate.

Crowds flock to culturally rich Al Khor Carnival

The ongoing inaugural edition of the Al Khor Carnival which highlights the cultural legacy and heritage of Qatar, and features an array of entertainment and shopping opportunities, is drawing crowds to al Bayt stadium park.

Entry is free, games start from just 10 riyals each and premium shows are set at 100 riyals each. Doors open between 12 noon and 10:00 PM and the carnival will continue until February the 6th.

No COVID-19 second wave in Qatar

Qatar has witnessed stability in the Coronavirus outbreak for several weeks and has not faced a second wave of the virus, said the Minister of Public Health Her Eminence Doctor Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari.

She pointed out that there are a few cases of virus outbreaks that are mostly related to family, social gatherings or shared places of residence. And this is controlled through effective monitoring and case tracking. However she warned that this does not mean that “we are completely safe from the threat of a second wave”

The Amir patronises police college graduation

The ceremony marked the graduation of 112 officers including 93 Qataris from the Ministry of Interior and various military entities in the state, 10 from Jordan, 6 from Palestine and three from Yemen.

Doha is ready to host the FIFA Club World Cup

Education City and Ahmad Bin Ali stadiums capacities will be limited to 30% for the FIFA Club World Cup.

The two venues both have a seating capacity of 40,000 each, but due to coronavirus precautions will only utilise 30% of this. Which if I get my Calculator out means 12,000 seats in each venue will be utilised.

The tournament which Qatar is hosting for the second time will feature six teams. With Al Duhail being the host nations representatives.

The tournament will run from February the 1st until February the 11th.

Qatar’s weather today can expect moderate temperatures daytime with some clouds. And it will be cold by tonight.

Doha will see between 15 and 23 degrees. Abu Samra will experience todays coolest temperature dropping to as low as 11 degrees.

Dust storm sweep Qatar and affects visibility

A massive dust storm swept through the country yesterday reducing visibility to as low as two kilometres in most areas. The dusty weather continued for quite some time. The bad weather conditions prevailing across the country have forced several entities to postpone their competitions and activities that were to be held yesterday or today. Including Al Khor Carnival which was supposed to open yesterday, and the Aspire Zone Foundation postponed the Qatar Strongest Man Competition.

Saudi embassy in Doha will reopen in days

According to the Al Arabia TV channel yesterday, which was citing the Saudi Foreign Minister.

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment urges the public to cut food waste

A Ministry of Municipality and Environment official says that large quantities of food wastes have been observed at municipal waste management and collection plants.

The ministry is implementing a programme aimed at reducing food waste from the entire supply chain.

Qatar’s Met Office is warning of strong winds and poor visibility.

Doha see temperatures of between 14 and 20 degrees.

Messied and Al Khor Will be the coolest with temperatures as low as 12 degrees.

The Ministry of Public Health yesterday said people coming to Qatar from the UK, South Africa, the Netherlands and Denmark are not eligible for hotel quarantine exemptions based on their age and health conditions.

Qatar Airways set to resume flights to the United Arab Emirates on January the 27th

Qatar Airways said the airline will fly twice daily to Dubai and once daily to Abu Dhabi.

Qatar’s mobile Internet speed is the fastest in the world

Mobile Internet speeds in Qatar were the fastest in the world in December 2020 according to the speed test global index results released yesterday. The average mobile upload speed globally is 47.2 megabits per second. While here in Qatar the average mobile download speed is a massive 178.01 megabits per second. That’s way over three times the global average.

The Met Office has put out a warning that strong winds are expected today with poor horizontal visibility. Qatar will be generally dusty in place, and relatively cold by tonight.

Doha will see temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees. Abu Samra, Messaid and Al Khor, will all experience today’s lowest temperatures of 13 degrees.
