The Qatar News in around 60 Seconds – Saturday 11th July 2020

It’s Saturday 11th of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

Starting with a quick announcement, that The News in 60 Seconds is now available as an audio Podcast as well. We’re in the process of adding ourselves to all the main podcast directories over the next couple of weeks. But until then please see the accompanying text for a link.

There are 3 English medium newspapers in Qatar. Today that drops to 2 as the Qatar Tribune don’t publish on a Saturday.

Starting with the Gulf Times at the top of their front page is; Al Bayt Stadium is a stunner of a stadium. This story describes the Al Bayt stadium and covers its design and inspiration. Saying the 60,000 capacity stadium honors Qatar’s past and present, while keeping an eye on the future.

Qatar calls for more support to victims of terrorism.

And a warning from Hamad Medical Corporation to check the weather conditions before heading to the beach. And I can save you some time there by telling you now, it’s going to be sunny with no chance of rain today. It looked like it was going to snow earlier, but that seems to have passed us by. We can expect a high of up to 43 degrees today so if your going to the beach get some factor 1,000 sun block.

On to the Peninsula, and they start with the Education Above All Foundation hosting a high-level event at UN HLPF.

Hamad Medical Corporation advises to take safety measures as mercury surges.

And the General Authority of Customs releases 318,743 customs declarations in June.

That seems to be it for today’s headlines. They say no news is good news, so today is super awesome news.

Now here’s a quick look yesterday’s COVID update – Which shows 520 new positive cases…..  961 recoveries and I’m very sad to say, 4 deaths.

For one reason or another the handout no longer gives information on the number of active cases. So, we’ve calculated this figure from the information they’ve shared. Yesterday there were 4,696 active cases so with today’s adjustments that means active cases have now dropped to 4,251. Meaning a decrease of 445 in the previous 24hr period.

And this means our prediction needs revising. The graph is now indicating,

that we should have less than 1,000 active cases of covid-19 by July 23th.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see ya tomorrow.
