Saturday and the Peninsula printed that Qatar Museums are hosting a Jeff Koons exhibition, starting November the 21st, as part of the Qatar United States 2021 Year of Culture. The exhibition entitled ‘Lost in America’ will be on show until March the 31st 2022. For those of you who don’t know Jeff Koons work, he’s the one who makes sculptures that look as if they’ve been made out of party balloons, like the balloon animals made by entertainers.
Sunday and the Gulf Times say that 80% of Qatar’s total population is now fully vaccinated, and they also say that new daily cases of COVID have dropped below 100 for the first time in over two months.
Monday and in the Tribune was Qatar’s health minister along with the World Health Organisation’s Director General, visiting the facilities housing Afghan evacuees here in Qatar. During the tour, they were briefed about the operations team in the facilities, the progress of operations, procedures, services, and care provided to the evacuees. Along with the services, educational, sports, recreational, health and comprehensive care facilities provided. They also met with some families and children.
On to Tuesday now and on the front page of the Peninsula is that the FIFA World Cup’s final venue, Lusail Stadium is nearing completion. Turf has been laid for the first time in Lusail Stadium the 80,000-capacity venue that will host the FIFA World Cup final in December 2022.
Wednesday and there’s extensive coverage of the Amir addressing the United Nations General Assembly the previous day. During which he said ‘We are pleased that Doha has become a hub of international multilateral action in our region, which is in dire need of the work and efforts of United Nations agencies and international institutions, as their offices in Doha have started working. In this context, we look forward to inaugurating the United Nations House in Doha soon.
Yesterday now and work begins to install 600 electric vehicle charging units. Public buses, government school buses, and metro feeder buses will gradually shift to electrification. By 2022 25% of the public transit bus fleet in Qatar will have become electric.
On to today now and the Tribune’s front page carries the story that an Asian national has been arrested on money laundering charges. In a statement the Ministry of Interior said that the accused was arrested, and his residence was searched after an arrest and search warrant was issued by the public prosecution office. Several investment contracts and a large amount of money in Qatari and foreign currencies was seized from his residence. In addition, some cars, and expensive residential units were also found in his possession.
During an interrogation he confessed to the accusations.
This weeks COVID figures continue a downward trend with 829 new cases, made up of 548 reported new cases locally, and 281 arriving into the country. There were no COVID related deaths and 1,084 recoveries. That’s a reduction of 255 active cases since last week. Giving us a new current total of 1,511 active cases.
