In today’s papers

The shift into phase 3 beings tomorrow instead of August the 1^st.

Here’s a run down of things that may interest you, especially with the Eid break coming up.

So let’s start with malls. At this time there will be no changes to mall regulations. Capacity will remain at 50% and children under 12 will still not be allowed inside. Food courts will also remain closed. However restaurants within malls that have applied for, and been granted permission to re-open, can do so.

Restaurants including those in malls that have been granted permission to open, will need to limit occupancy to 50% with 2m table distancing. Tables can only sit 4 customers, or six if they are from the same household.

I really hope Mc Donald’s in Mirqab mall have applied for permission.

Barbour shops and hairdressers can begin operating again. But they have to apply for permission to do so. Once they have permission, they’re restricted to 30% occupancy, and can only accept pre-booked appointments.

Social gatherings are not to exceed 10 people indoors, or 30 people outdoors.

Parks, beaches and the Corniche are open, but playgrounds, skate parks and park gym equipment will remain closed.

Gyms, outdoor pools and waterparks can open to 50% capacity. Indoor pools, saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis and massage services remain closed.

So there we go. Perhaps some people were hoping for a little bit more, but there’s plenty there to ensure you have an active and happy Eid. And with a nice haircut as well.

Now here’s a quick COVID update

Yesterday there were 269 new recorded cases of COVID-19. And that’s the lowest number I have on my records since I started keeping them back on May 18^th. Unfortunately, the recoveries were also low, so active cases only drop by 6.  

Of those tested, 8.5% of people are testing positive.
