It’s Tuesday 21st of July, this is the news in 60 seconds

In today’s newspapers

A coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford appears safe and triggers an immune response.

Scientists at Oxford University say their vaccine has been shown in an early trial to prompt a protective immune response in hundreds of people who got the shot.

Trials involving 1,077 people showed the injection led to them making antibodies and T-cells that can fight coronavirus.

The findings are hugely promising, but it is still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are under way.

In research published on Monday in the journal Lancet, scientists said that they found their experimental COVID-19 vaccine produced a dual immune response in people aged 18 to 55.

“We are seeing good immune response in almost everybody,” said Dr Adrian Hill, director of the Jenner Institute at Oxford University.

“What this vaccine does particularly well is trigger both arms of the immune system,” he said.

The vaccine – called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 – is being developed at an unprecedented speed.

The annual local date festival usually held in Souq Waqif, has got underway. However because of the Corona Virus, this year the festival is being held in branches of Al Meera stores across Qatar.

More than 100 local farms and date producers are taking part. With all the favorite varieties available in stores.

The festival will run until all 300 tones of dates have run out.

Here at Qatar Quick we’ve been getting a lot of enquiries about when and how, residents outside of the country can return.

To help answer these questions I have Aji Kuriakose from Magic Tours Travel agency on the line.

Good morning Aji, what can you tell us?

[Aji Phone Call]

Thank you Aji, that’s brilliant. We look forward to hearing more from you in the near future.

Now here’s a quick look at yesterday’s COVID update

Of the 4,336 tested, 389 people which represents 8.97%, tested positive.

There were 405 recoveries, and I’m sad to say, 2 deaths.

Meaning active cases have dropped by 18 to 3,096 in the previous 24hr period.

That’s all for today, please take care, and I’ll see you tomorrow.
